Banksy, Dada and Platt College

We at Platt believe that school should offer the following: much of learning (of course!), opportunity for camaraderie, and  fun fun fun! That kind of fun that opens new horizons (many field trips and guests speakers) or that kind of  creative involving fun that leaves you inspired.

For our summer fun we decided to pay homage to a British inspirational artist Banksy. Not only an excellent artist, but  Banksy is a person who speaks his mind and tries to change things by upsetting the set ways. More acceptable than quietly moaning about affairs but actually passively going with the flow and hence supporting them…

Our school is full of various artists and we were burning with curiosity what would be their take upon kind of “dadaist/banksian” project: We printed many well known pieces of art on cartons, laid out acrylics and fine markers and had our students to add anything to the existing well known images.

The yard was buzzing with inspiration, artistic ambition, and great live music! Not only the students had fun and allowed themselves to be playful and imaginative, but many conveyed  quite serious messages by their artistic addition to the painting.

I suspect that Marcel Duchamp (the father of Dada) and Banksy would enjoy our lively Platt happening.
