It was a great pleasure to represent Platt at such a high profile event with a record turnout. All in all I was amazed at how well the project came together in such a short amount of time, especially considering we had little, if any, experience working together and not one of us had any experience in any aspect of the competition. Everyone contributed enthusiastically in making what could easily be described as the fan favorite entry of the amateur section. As our sculpture neared its completion we were bombarded by strangers asking for group photos and insights to our process. I have to say that considering all of the other great entries, it was flattering how most people were surprised to find out it was our first time around. Thanks to every one who made it out there! I don’t think we could have hand picked a better team.

Congratulation Platt team! We are happy our students brought us a trophy for incredible second place but it is not the biggest joy for me. What I appreciate the most is the uniqueness, dedication, loyalty to our school, and almost academic approach with which the task was attacked. Of course, such an approach is what we try to instill into Platt college students!
The students brainstormed what to create and here came an idea of a fun sea creature plesiosaur, extinct in Jurassic era. What an idea to create and excavation site with the perfectly preserved remnants of the dinosaur-like animal. Nothing but a bag of flour to achieve the bone color was used as prop. The rest were just shovels, buckets for water and much of hard work, patience and artistic skills. What you will see on the pictures is a pure leap of imagination turned into this beautiful tangible imaginative art piece that became, without a doubt and with all modesty, a crowd’s favorite. And what a crowd it was - it counted 350,000 people! It was a long sunny day for our Platt team but according to all of them – it was nothing but fun fun fun and very rewarding. They all want to do it again!
Congratulation to: Victor Silva (a captain, teacher’s assistant, graphic design department), Otto Lai (teacher, animation department), Carla Sparrow (Platt graduate), Andrew Duenas (video department), Gloria Aguilar (web department), Stan Duncan (web department), David Wagner (web department), Salvador Armenta (animation department), Geoffrey Canady (animation department), Heather (Platt College loyal friend).
Thank you all and enjoy the sweet moment of glory! You deserve it!
